Tom centers your key priorities and values, whether advising or coaching.
Philanthropic Advising
Tom leads our support of donors and managers – individuals, families, foundations and organizations – as they navigate today's often overwhelming choices. He helps them maximize the impact of their investments in political and social change, and better meet their broader philanthropic goals. He also helps them formulate their investment strategy: to articulate clear priorities; sift through the best opportunities for impact; and align values and build consensus across generations or stakeholders.
We draw on the lessons Tom learned and the networks he built from organizing and supporting donors to invest in that change, including the past seven years supporting the Movement Voter Project. Tom is the lead author and editor of our newsletter Making Sense; Maximizing Impact, helping hundreds of subscribers make sense of the nonsense and maximize the impact of their time and dollars.
We can help you invest in all your philanthropic priorities, drawing on our seven decades of work with more than a hundred local, state and national organizations across the not-for-profit spectrum (our past and current clients).
Executive Coaching
Tom supports executives to answer their most pressing questions, and to uncover new ones. Being an executive can at times be a lonely or overwhelming job. Tom brings support and empathy. Every organization and every leader is different; he tries to meet you where you are, so you can meet the moment.
He doesn't hold back. He can help you face hard decisions head-on, and support you as you untangle priorities and sort through tough questions – even those that might feel to you like a Gordian Knot.
Tom values humility, well-earned from a lifetime of learning the hard way. While he has experience spanning dozens of organizations and years, he often says (and tries to live by), "know what you know, know what you don't know, be willing to admit (and face) what you don't know, and know where to find the answers to the questions that need answering."
Perhaps most importantly, like any coach, he is independent outside counsel: you can work through the issues you face confidentially and with candor, in ways that often cannot be done internally.
If it sounds like we might be of help, let's talk.
