Tom’s time at the American Cancer Society
Tom spent nine years with the ACS. He first worked in a variety of positions in the Massachusetts Division, including VP of Administration & Finance, and Chief Information Officer (CIO). He played an integral role in managing the consolidation of six previously independent state divisions into a New England Division. Until his departure in 1999, Tom served as a member of the consolidated division’s Leadership Team as its CIO. Tom also served the Society nationwide during his tenure, and provided leadership and consultation on a wide range of initiatives including the following:
- Managed all aspects of purchase, renovation and move to current 32,000 ft2 New England headquarters.
- Marshaled support of key nationwide business and technical leadership for creating, funding and implementing a multimillion dollar initiative to standardize ACS communications on Lotus Notes throughout the nation. He was appointed to the nationwide Project Oversight Team and chaired it’s Business Redesign and Application Development Team.
- Led the development, writing, adoption and implementation of a comprehensive technology plan to bring a state-of-the-art information infrastructure to the American Cancer Society in Massachusetts first, and then throughout New England (10 offices; 350+ users).
- Served on the nationwide Knowledge Management Group, which coordinated and oversaw technology investment and strategy for the organization nationwide.
- Served as Nationwide Project Manager for the Society’s first nationwide major gifts fund-raising application. Oversaw business process mapping, product selection and customization efforts. Selected platform to serve ACS’ broader contact and relationship management needs for a variety of business process.
